Irritation

Today was one of those days where I was just really frustrated. I woke up with an attitude and a headache...not good. My attention span was short. I couldn't seem to focus on anything. No matter what I tried to work on nothing would come full circle.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I have a website to work on and articles to write. On top of a business to run. Lord, please allow me to focus on my purpose in life.

This journey is tough. I know people are not going to understand why you have me doing what you have me doing. Give me the strength not to second guess myself or you. I am your servant here to do what you have called me to do. I thank you for this gift. Thank you for trusting me to carry out this plan.

Patience on my journey

So much has happened over the past few months. I wanted to write about everything that has been going on, but my motivation to write about my personal life was no where to be found. I should be miserable and upset over the past 6 months and everything that has taken place, but I'm not. I am truly at peace with my decisions that I have made.

I told God I was ready to walk in the path he has created for me. Yes, it's been scary not knowing what's coming next but my faith in Him has been helping me through this. Every day is a new adventure for me. I wake up and go to bed with so much peace in my heart. I am truly living out my dreams right now. I love what is happening right now in my life. God is doing some amazing things and I am just so grateful for it all.

This journey is teaching me patience. I am learning to trust Jesus more and more. Waiting on the milestones of my journey to manifest is teaching me to enjoy the position I am in right now. Being thankful for where I am right now. Praising God as if I have already gotten where He said He is going to take me.

Being Confident in Being Me Day 1

As much as I love technology and love to read it only seems fitting that I would have a Bible app on my phone. For the past few months I have used the YouVersion, Bible app on my phone to look up scriptures, meditate, and read some of the many devotionals that they have. I just started a new devotional called The Confident Woman, it's by Joyce Meyer. After reading this first message I knew I would journal about this passage. Below is today's passage. My will follow at the end.

Believe in Your Value

Take a minute and look into your heart. How do you feel about yourself? If your answer does not agree with God's Word, I encourage you to begin today renewing your mind about yourself.

See yourself as God sees you. Study God's Word and you will find out that you are precious, created in your mother's womb by God's own hand. You are not an accident. Even if your parents told you they never really wanted you, I can assure you that God wanted you. You are valuable, you have worth, you are gifted, you are talented, and you have a purpose on this earth.

Not only must we ask God for things He has promised us but we must receive them (see John 16:24). If you feel unworthy, you probably won't ask, and even if you do, you won't receive by faith. Don't let feelings rule you anymore. Take a step of faith and start improving your quality of life today. Believe that you make good decisions, that you are a valuable person with a great future, and something good is going to happen to you today!

Pray: Lord, I ask You to imprint Your love into the depths of my heart. I believe You have a great future for me and that I can walk in Your purpose for my life. Amen.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I see myself in a very different scope than I did a year ago. I'm much more happier and focused now. Working on my dreams and goals keep me motivated. I'm still spending a lot of time in prayer and studying my Bible but I do make more time for family and friends. When I would normally spend most of my time reading and just sitting in one place, I am not going out more since I moved here. One of the reasons for that is finding a church home. This was a big deal for me. I finally found a place that I feel comfortable in.
Finding a church home has helped my transition a lot over the past year. I began to really look at who I am as a person, where I want to go in life and how my relationship with the Lord was growing. I began really feel like I could step out on faith once again.
Taking a leap of faith and starting my own business was definitely something I had to pray about. But since starting Southern Roots Kitchen, I am happy and excited.  My food blog is up and running, I have implemented my Meal Planning Services. There is a lot more in works too.
I am thankful that God placed this vision in my life and is allowing me to live out my dreams. I am confident that I will succeed in all He has for me.
Blessings,
Kimberlee
Patience, Hair, Patience
You have a vision, you have a purpose, you can see the finish product right in front of you but you have so much more work to do before it is done. Patience. It is definitely something you have to learn in life.
My journey to see my natural hair texture has been just that a journey. There have been times where I want to just give up and say forget this. I don't care if I don't see the curls anymore. But then there are other times where I get so excited about the process, I look at how far I've come. My hair is growing like crazy, it's big, it's puffy and I love it. Through the entire process I have to learn to be patient, there are times when I don't want to be patient and I contemplate throwing in a relaxer or just doing a BC (big chop). But I have to remember to stay calm, be patient and just wait. I chose a long transition so I could get used to the curls and the texture.
There are weeks when I get real excited about trying new styles, other weeks I am ready to just say for get it and throw a relaxer in it. But then I remember the pain, the headaches, the money I have to spend and all the trouble I have to go through for my roots to only swell up and need a touch up in 4-6 weeks. Nope that's okay I will continue on this journey of learning my natural hair texture.
Living in VA definitely helps with the transition because the weather is so different here from what it is in Massachusetts. The humidity makes my hair big and fluffy, I have found a hair dresser that specializes in natural hair, and one of my younger sisters has decided to go natural. The two of us are constantly looking at different styles, she's always asking about the texture of her hair, different products, and hair styles. She got a kick out of using EEVO in her hair. She told the hair dresser what I was doing one night and the hair dresser said: 'Girl, EVOO will become your friend lol' So this journey has it ups and downs, but I know that being able to finally see my natural hair texture will be amazing.
Once I figure out this weekend's hair style I'll do another post.
Super Bowl Weekend
NY Giants won!!! WOO HOO!!! So for those people who know me, know that I am a HUGE NY Giants fan. I always have been. I love sports period. My mom and I had made plans to go to NY to spend the weekend with my older sister who happened to just open a lounge called Epiphany NYC. But due to last minute changes we decided to stay in VA and just chill. Oh my gosh, we had an amazing time. We were all dressed in our jerseys, I even bought a new racing jacket and wore it to church for Team Spirit Sunday. We made some wings with a honey hotsauce glaze, taco dip, veggie platter, smoothies, cupcakes and cookies. You would have thought we had a house full of people with all the food we made but it was just my mom, my sister Erica, my nephew, my sisters boyfriend and I.
We were scremaing, yelling at the TV and laughing at the commercials like we were at some party. Had such a good time with them. It was sad that we were with the rest of our family who happen to be Giants fans as well. But we still managed to enjoy ourselves. I took today off because I knew I would be tired and need to relax.
I do have some studying to do in the book of Ester, so off to read for a while.
New Year, New Journey....or is it?
Happy New Year! It's a new year, new journey, resolutions to be made. Do you really make resolutions? I haven't made one in years, if I say I'm going to do something or not do something then that's it. I don't wait until January to decide to change things. It changes when I make that declaration.
I'm still working on getting things in order with my business, a lot of behind the scenes work gets put into place beforehand. I am also going to be opening the blog back up. After much prayer and talking with my business coach things will be much different this time. You can check out the blog here and let me know what you think. There is quite a bit that will be happening there. I'm excited and ready to share with everyone. I've had some people ask if I was going to do Foodie Friday's again and I am. That will definitely be back, along with Taste Test Tuesday, where I showcase new products or just products people see and want me to test out. My journey to becoming my own boss continues.
I went home to Massachusetts for what was supposed to just be Christmas weekend but turned into a 10 day stay. I really enjoyed visiting with my family and friends. I even surprised my family by blow drying and straightening my hair. I was surprised at the length but after 3 days I missed my curls lol. I stood strong and waited almost 3 weeks before I washed my hair. I'm proud of myself. There are still some relaxed ends that I need to get rid of, so I'll cut a little more off in a few months. This transition is taking it's course but I am loving my hair even if other's don't.
My cousin Tiara has finished her transition and is completely natural now. Her curls look amazing. People spent the entire week mixing us up. If my hair had remained curly during this visit it would have been even worse. We do look just a like so we can't help it. Once I find the picture we took I'll post it.
This also happen to be our first Christmas without my great-grandmother. It was kind of sad, but we celebrated her life the way she would want us to. One of my cousins moved into her house so I went over there to hang out with him and it was a bitter sweet moment walking into that house knowing that she wouldn't be sitting in her recliner looking at me. I definitely felt her presence in the home.
Peace and Blessings
The fact that I have found a church that I absolutely love has been a blessing. Ever since my first visit they have made me feel like family. I walk in the building and I feel at home. Friendly people and they are so passionate and excited about the Lord. You can't help but be excited with them. This past weekend we had a Women's Ministry Fellowship. The night started out with a pot luck dinner, we played some games, had a workshop on overcoming our fears and doubts and then ended the night performing a play about the 10 virgins.
The weekend really helped me put a lot of things into perspective. I've learned to stop thinking so small about my business and what God has called me to do. As I continue to prepare to open up the bakery, things keep happening that I thought were roadblocks but they were actually blessings and lessons to learn. I am moving this weekend to another city near by, at first I thought it was going to stop me from opening up my business when it's actually helping me with the process even more. The house will be mine, I will be able to expand my kitchen when it's time and I have more space. I am truly thankful. My business will be up and running as soon as I get all the paperwork and permits done. Not going to rush things  because they won't come out the way God wants them to, so I am being patient and watching God work. My God, He is working because the blessings that are already flowing are just overwhelming me.
Well off to bed I go, got lots of boxes to move in a few hours.
Almost time!!!
Have you every been so involved in a project that you lose track of time? You work so hard on getting things in order and preparing for the big day. Well right now....that's me!!! I have been working non-stop since August 2nd to get my business up and running. The journey has not been easy, but it has definitely been worth it. Long nights, early mornings, phone calls, emails, countless readings, recipe testing, researching business tactics and now it's almost time for me to launch my website, Facebook Fan Page and let everyone know what I have been working on for the past few months.
I'm excited, but also nervous. I've had some set backs along the way but I learned to embrace them and learn from them, some have taught a lot about myself and my business. I can truly say this has been a learning experience. I am extremely thankful to the core group of people that have helped me along the way, some of you were a part of the focus group others were there for me to bounce ideas off and some were taste testers. I appreciate you all so much!!!
Shivawn Mitchell at L.O.V.E. Consulting has been a blessing. I am so grateful for all her help. She has definitely kept me motivated. I couldn't have asked for a better business development coach. If you have a dream and need help getting things started check her out, you won't be disappointed. Her vlogs and Empower Me Over the Hump emails are such an inspiration.
Until next time!
Dream Pusher's Academy
It's a been a while since I've posted, I need to get back on schedule and post a lot more. Looks like Dream Academy will have me posting at least once a week. Many of you know I have been working with Shivawn Mitchell from L.O.V.E. Consulting on starting my home-based bakery. This has been a journey, I am learning a lot about the business, myself, and the people I surround myself with.
Shivawn has graciously taken me under her wing and is guiding me along the path of entrepreneurship. As a memeber of her Dream Pusher's Academy, I am receiving weekly business development sessions, where I go over tasks and agenda items to get my bakery up and running. There are weekly homework assignments (Yes, I said HW) and mid-week inspiring and motivational emails, vlogs...and in my case text messages too!! These emails and vlogs are called Empower Me Moments...they definitely empower you! For the past few weeks I have found myself re-reading the emails and watching the vlogs a lot more, meditating on them and really taking the time to apply them to my personal life and my business life.
This past week we had email sent to us with the title "Getting Over Speed Bumps" this one hit home pretty hard, and I didn't realize how significant it was until today in church when Pastor Lundy began preaching about going through struggles and the reason why we must go through them. Sometimes we want things to happen too fast, and try to make them happen in our time instead of on God's time. Patience is a big thing, now I consider myself a patient person, although their are times where my patiences is very thin and I don't want to wait. But waiting is all a part of live. Sometimes you want to drive right over the speed bump in life and act like you don't see it but if you do, what happens?....we can mess up our car or in some cases cause an accident. After reading Shivawn's email I had to really stop and think about the speed bumps in my life, how many things have I tried to rush and make happen to only fail in doing so? If I would have just waited and did things on God's watch I would be just fine and not back at the start line. Even today during the sermon, Pastor Lundy hit on being patient and not causing problems for ourselves by rushing God's work. There will be pain, there will be moments of solitude and reflection but trust and believe if God gave it to you, you will birth it!!
Each of us was given a purpose in this life, we have to choose to live out the mission He has given us. Like a mother having contractions during labor, the pains will be there. I have experienced some myself on this journey, there have been days where I have wanted to give up, but I can't this is a gift that was given to me to share with the world. I have also tried to rush this process by thinking I could do it all on my own and in my time...HA!..definitely learned that lesson. Taking a different approach and waiting for God to place Shivawn in my life to make this happen has been a blessing in itself. The Empower Me emails and vlogs are just a small portion of the work that she does, but each piece serves it's purpose.
I truly understand why I had to wait to get my business started, why I had to join Tastefully Simple for 3 years to learn about owning my own business, watching both my father's own theirs as well...a learning process. I can take what I have learned from each of them and bring them into my own business. There is so much that I want to do in life, the bakery is just the beginning. Walking in the purpose God gave me is allowing me to pursue my dreams and help other's in the process. Even with my full time job, I am learning things to add into my business and gaining customer's as well. See...look at God, at my last job things weren't this easy. Doing things God's way is the ONLY way for me!
I didn't mean to have this post be so long, sorry about that. I guess I was just writing what was on my chest. We have had quite a few of these vlogs and emails so what I am going to do is go back and read my notes from each of these and post them to by blog, feel free to subscribe to her YouTube channel so the vlogs come directly to you. You don't want to miss any of these.
Until next time....
A lot has happened!!!
So it's been a while since I have last posted here. A lot has happened since March. I have settled in with my new job, which I absolutely love, found my home church, and I'm working on getting my bakery up and running. In between all of that I have been traveling a lot, visiting family and friends.
While doing all of that traveling I had to opportunity to do some leisure reading. About a year ago I became an Ambassador for Harlequin Books, in which they send me a book to review every few weeks, followed by a survey and the opportunity to distribute the other 4 copies to friends, family, strangers, etc. 4 copies isn't a lot and most of the time I really do enjoy the books that they send, so I have decided  that I will write a blog post about each of the books. This way, I can go into more detail about the book and let you know what I thought about it. The first post will be up by the end of the week!!
I got a question the other day on twitter asking me about my natural hair journey.....I'm still on the path. This head full of thick curly kinks is steady growing. The VA humidity makes it look even bigger, my roots swell something serious. I love it though, there are a lot of women at my job that are rocking their natural curls as well, one just did the BC and it came out beautiful!!! Speaking of natural hair, one of my younger sisters has gone natural...that's 3 of us so far!!! She has TWA and it's so cute!! Funny thing is she kind of went natural by accident. LOL She got pregnant last year and kept her hair in braids the whole time, so now there is no more relaxer left. I was doing a twist out on my hair one night and she said 'Can you do mine, when I take my braids out? Now you know I was excited!! Doing her twist out was so much fun, she actually wore the twist the work for the week and then rocked the twist out for about 4 days..said she felt like a totally different person. Woo Hoo!! We are doing this natural hair journey together and loving it. I need to take more pictures of my hair, maybe I can get the enthusiasm to do it this weekend. I'm thinking braids and a bantu knot out will be my weekend style, it just might be my style for a week knowing me. LOL
Food, food and more food.....well as you know I have another blog called Tastey Treats by Kim (here) where I discuss everything food related, write product reviews, and give out recipes. Well after working on that for a year I have finally decided to do what people have been asking me to do...sell my baked goods! I have started the process of working on my home based bakery, getting my business plan in order, along with with a product listing. But....I still need a name LOL Yeah I know I should probably already have one, but I don't..I'm working on it. I don't want it to be something I just threw together, I want it to have a meaning..some purpose. Brainstorming sessions are releasing some interesting characteristics, and I'm playing around with a few words to see if anything sticks. Hopefully I will have a name picked out soon. It's a lot of work to do, but I am really motivated and extremely happy that I have a support system to help me through this process along with my business coach Shivawn Mitchell from L.O.V.E. Consulting. She is amazing! If you are ready to live out your vision...CONTACT HER!! My journey to having my own bakery has begun, there have been some sleepless nights but I don't realize them until the next day when I get to work and I'm exhausted lol. I'm loving my journey and all it has to offer!!
Stop Settling!!
2011 started off with a bang! I started the new year off a little different than I normally do, I'm usually with my family in Northern VA. But this year I was in Virginia Beach, with my BRC family!! We brought in the New Year playing MJ Experience and Just Dance 2 on the Wii. It was awesome. I had so much fun. In a way I felt bad that I wasn't with my biological family but on the other hand I was happy that I had found new friends. I was in town for 2 weeks and there were people that I have known for years that I didn't see while I was there. At first I was upset that I had been there all that time and hadn't see people, but as the weeks went on, I heard 3 different people tell me that some people from 2010 will not carry over into 2011. That is so true, I guess I felt that certain people would always be around, no matter what.
For the past year I have been saying that I want to move to Virginia Beach, VA to be with my sister and to just get a fresh start. The entire time I have saying this I have been receiving more negative feedback than positive feedback. Very few people were actually embracing my idea of moving. People have told me I am being selfish for leaving my grandparents, other have said I have no business leaving the state and I need to get my priorities in order. I would pray about this move every chance I got, I just kept asking God, to do what He sees fit. If He feels this move should take place then so be it, if not then I know it wasn't in his will for me to move.
Well the Lord decided the move was just for me. He made a way for me to obtain a job, a place to live and transportation back and forth to work. The job even pays more than what I was making before!!! No one but God, I tell you. I am extremely grateful for the blessings he has provided for me. The Lord places people in your life for a reason, at first I let all the negativity get to me, stopped preparations for my move and just got content with the way my life was going. BIG MISTAKE!!!! I became miserable and started to hate everything around me. Let's just say I fell face first in prayer asking Jesus for help with this situation. I was tired of just letting everything pass by me.
Never settle for less than you deserve. If God, tells you He is going to make it happen, then He will. You just have to keep the faith, keep pressing, praise your way through. Your blessing is on it's way!!
New place, new journey...
So I took some time off from writing on this blog. I put my hair kinky twists for about 2 months just to be different. I need that time to come up with a hair regime, hairstyles and I knew I had of other stuff going on. The time off was great, I learned a lot and I watched my hair grow tremendously. Everyday I fall more in love with my hair, yeah I still get the nay sayers asking me why my hair isn't straight or why I won't get the 'Creamy Crack' put in my hair. Ummm....NO! I am who I am, let me enjoy my hair. Right now it's pressed just because I wanted to see what it would look like and boy has it grown. I was really shocked. But I do miss my curls so I may go back to my curly state sometime very very soon. I need to wash my hair anyway so that is a good excuse.
Besides my hair, I took some time to work on my bakery business. I have been doing a lot more baking these past few months and it is has taken time away from a lot of things, but I love it. About 3-4 days out the week I am in my kitchen baking cookies, cakes, pies, cupcakes either for myself or for others. I am so grateful for the support that I receive from family and friends. Here is the link to my blog 'Tastey Treats by Kim' Right now I am doing '25 Days of Cookies' for the month of December. Check it out and let me know what you think.
Another thing I am working on is L.O.V.E Movement, an online networking site and magazine for women. The founder Shivawn, which I met on another networking site, has been gracious enough to give me my own section called 'Kimberlee's Kitchen.' I was in tears when she told me she was doing this. It's amazing, I tell you. When someone else sees something in you and is willing to help you grow it is such a wonderful feeling. I am truly honored for this opportunity. Stop by the site and check us out!
Enough for now, I will be blogging much more now that I have moved the blog and I am back into my writing routine. Until next time...Be Blessed!
The time has come.....
Over the past few weeks a lot of things have changed. I lost a cousin (which shook me the core), prayer life intensified, I've paid off some bills and I have been seriously job hunting in Virginia. But one thing that happened is God has told me to end my employment with Tastefully Simple. As much as I love this company, the products, training and other consultants it is time for me to go. I love food, my friends call me a foodie LOL. I am preparing myself for my next step. I know what I would like it to be but I am not quite sure if it is what God has in store for me. My head is spinning thinking about all the recipes that I would like to work on, cupcakes, cakes, cookies, brownies. I probably should have gone to Pastry School 10 years ago. But gotta do things God's way. So I must continue to be patient, pray and wait to see what He has in store for me.
On another not my hair is amazing! It's been 4 months since my last dose of creamy crack. I am truly enjoying the journey. Looking at the curls that are forming, I get excited just thinking about how my hair will be once it is back to it's natural state. Family still thinks I'm crazy for not having a relaxer but thanks to friends, blogs, and forums I am going to continue with this journey. Since I am planning on being a long term transition-er ( I want to be completely natural for my 30th birthday August 2012) I have created a list of hairstyles that I want to try. Now this list is LONG!!! Maybe one day I will post it as a checklist to see how many of them I can accomplish. Among that list, is a list of protective hairstyles for me to try as well. The winter is coming so I will be in the house more, on top of job hunting, I am now able to get those protective styles that I have always wanted but have not gotten before because I always had a relaxer.
I am so excited about trying out the different styles and learning about my hair. Right now I have kinky twists in, these will stay in for at least 6-8 weeks. Then I will look for another style to have. When I take these I will be cutting off some relaxed ends. I know I will. LOL When I cut off those 3 inches before it felt good and my hair grew even more. It almost felt like freedom to rid my self of straight hair. I need to post of pictures of my hair journey, maybe I will do a slide show for the next post.
Yeah it's nappy... and what?
So its funny how when I started this journey 2 months ago people had my back and supported me. But I guess now that my hair is growing out and you can see how wavy it is folks don't like it. In fact, can't stand it.
The humidity really did a number on my hair these past few days. Now that it's puffy ( I was too tired to do anything after traveling yesterday ) people got issues. I came home and told my grandmother I was going to get my hair done tonight and she goes I hope you are getting a relaxer because your hair is nappy. Yes gramma I know its nappy its mine. I politely let her know that I am not getting a relaxer, just a roller set. Then she starts to go on and on about how nappy my hair is. Uggghhh this is frustrating but I knew when I started this journey everyone wasn't going to be in my corner. My mom is okay as long as it is in a protective style. My girls are cool with it and just as excited as I am.
I guess I am just irritated about the whole thing. I will post again after my hair is done tonight.
Until then... Be Blessed!
I love heat and humidity!!!!
Our family reunion was this weekend in Myrtle Beach, SC. It was at least 97 each day, shoot it's 93 outside now. I couldn't get my hair braided before I left home so I decided to just wash and do a bantu knot out or a braid out for the week. Well let's just say with all the swimming, visits to the water park and the humidity it was a lot of wash n go's going on. But I absolutely enjoyed the week with my hair.
The humidity made my hair big and beautiful. I loved it!! I already love the heat as it is and now that I know my hair enjoys it to, it's a done deal. One of my sisters said my ponytail was puffy, I said good, it's the way it's supposed to be. LOL I am truly embracing this journey. Although I did get many requests asking me when I was going to get a relaxer and why didn't I get one before I got to SC. Now the more people pester me and question why I do things, the more determination I have to stay on my journey.
I have to admit there are days when I want to give up and get the creamy crack put in my head but when I think about the pain, the scabs and the migraine that follows I just say 'No Thanks' and keep moving. I have made a goal with myself to learn how to corn roll my hair by the end of the summer. I refuse to pay people to do something I know I can do myself. Each month I will give myself a goal to achieve for my natural hair journey. I think this will make my process very interesting.
For July my goal was a bantu knot out. Now when I say my hair and the humidity loved this style, it really did love it. This will definitely be a hairstyle I will use often. I love the curls and the waves.
Thank you humidity for embracing my hair and giving me more confidence. Love Ya lots!!!
Is this really my calling?
For the past few months I have been working with some friends on getting a newsletter started for our Young People department at church. Well the first issue was released in the late Spring and then two more people said they wanted to participate and write as well. Last month we had our first meeting with the new members of the staff. I should have known then that there would be a problem. Due to folks coming late and not paying for their portion of the food. I let it slide and just took it as a learning lesson.
For the past few weeks there has been a lot of misunderstanding and no communication. Each person has their role, so they need to stick with it.Well that didn't seem to be the case this past weekend. A special edition of the newsletter was put out and 3 of the 5 people of the staff didn't know about it. One of them being the Editor!! Now how are you going to go over the Editor's head and publish a newsletter without them knowing. Needless to say when it was announced during morning announcements in church we looked shocked, but knew right away who sent it out.
I had already been thinking about quitting because it has become such a headache to work with this one individual. I honestly don't know if this is something I should be doing. Is this really my calling? I know the Bible says you will endure some tests and trials but this test is pure craziness. I am truly trying to hold on, wait on Jesus to let me know if this is where I need to be.
I have so many thoughts running through my head that I just really need some answers. We are supposed to meet as a staff tonight with our president because she is just as confused as some of us are. I just don't like working with people I can't trust. I feel like I have to watch my back around them and that's not cool. Especially with them being in the church.
Pray for me as I embark on this journey and wait on an answer.
All this new growth!!!
So being that I am acquiring so much new growth I decided to get my hair braided. I figured this way it would be in a protective style for at least a month and by the time I come back from vacation I would take them out and get something else done. Well, not to sure how this is all going to turn out because these box braids have been in for less than a week and I already have 1/4 of new growth. How is that possible?
Don't get me wrong I'm loving this but I can't believe it's all happening so fast. Maybe I can get away with getting the first two rows of my box braids done over before I leave. My mother and my grandmother both said my hair grows too fast. So is that the reason my relaxers didn't last a month?
I am truly enjoying this journey and I am excited to see what it will bring next. All this hair and all this new growth. But I love it!!
Blessings!!
All these chemicals...LOL
So last night I went through my 'hair' cabinet in my bathroom. I ended up printing out the list of '10 Chemicals to Avoid Putting On Your Hair' courtesy of Nappturality. As I was going through the cabinet and pulling out products I was surprised at the amount of products that I had and all the chemicals that were in them. WOW!!! It was actually kind of scary. I am determined to have healthy hair and rid myself of all the crazy chemicals so I put everything in a basket and gave it to my grandmother. She laughed and said 'Stick with it Pumpkin!'
I only have 5 products in the cabinet now. I still need to get a detangler and some aloe vera gel. But I'm good on everything else. I am enjoying the journey and learning so much as I go along. I feel that if I am going to do this, I am going to do it right, so getting rid of all those chemicals is a MUST!!
A New Day..A New Beginning
So after 2 years of going back and forth with my decisions on a lot of things I have decided that I am going to step out of my comfort zone and do things that I have been wanting to do. One of them being event planning and the other being 'going natural'. I'm nervous, scared and excited all at the same time, but this is something I must do for myself and no one else.
Thanks to a very good friend I met on Twitter I can begin my transition stage with someone to talk to. It's a great feeling to know that you have someone to bounce your questions and ideas off of. It is something I have wanted to do but wasn't sure if I was ready for it. Now that I am, I am stepping out of my comfort zone and doing something I have never done. It feels wonderful to live out my purpose in life.
I got my last relaxer in mid-May and I am now due for a touch up. My grandmother asked me if I wanted her to put my touch up in this week and I said 'no gramma, I'm all set. No more relaxer for me.' She just looked at me and smiled. That right there made me cry. My hair is thick and coarse but I love it. So I am going to embrace my newness and continue to enjoy life.
Be Blessed!
